Stavytsky will file a lawsuit against Ukraine in the European Court.

StavitskyThe lawyer for former Energy and Coal Minister Eduard Stavytsky plans to file a lawsuit against Ukraine in the European Court of Human Rights. This was reported by the former official's lawyer, Inna Rafalska, according to UP.

The lawyer stated that the reason for this decision is the Prosecutor General's Office's delays in the pre-trial investigation of the case against former Minister Stavytsky.

According to Rafalskaya, the Prosecutor General's Office has been investigating her client's case since March 2014. However, according to current legislation, the pre-trial investigation period should not exceed 12 months.

The lawyer noted that she had repeatedly contacted the Prosecutor General's Office regarding the failure to complete the pre-trial investigation. However, the law enforcement agency ignored her appeals. Therefore, the decision was made to file a lawsuit with the European Court of Human Rights. Rafalskaya added that the lawsuit would be filed by the end of August 2016.

As a reminder, the Prosecutor General's Office is investigating Stavytskyi for aiding Viktor Yanukovych in the seizure of Mezhyhirya. The former minister is wanted by Interpol. He currently resides in Israel under the name Rosenberg.
