Today, October 14, 245 members of the Verkhovna Rada voted to appoint Stepan Poltorak as Minister of Defense of Ukraine. The day before, the former minister was dismissed. Valery Heletey 293 MPs voted in favor. Rumor has it that the main reasons for Heletey's dismissal were his controversial statements and lack of tangible results as minister. The former defense minister himself claims that the president of Ukraine will offer him a new position, but not within the Ministry of Defense. He recently told reporters before a Cabinet meeting.

Acting President of Ukraine and Speaker of Parliament Oleksandr Turchynov has dismissed Stanislav Shulyak from his position as Head of the Main Directorate and Commander of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. The corresponding decree was published on the acting head of state's official website. By another decree, Turchynov appointed Stepan Poltorak to this position.
