The issue of constructing the Belanovsky Mining and Processing Plant near Kremenchuk, in the context of compliance with Ukraine's environmental policy, will be decided after the elections on October 25.
The corresponding decision was made at a hearing of the relevant parliamentary committee the day before yesterday. Committee chairman Mykola Tomenko asked the meeting participants not to exploit the construction project, but the committee members nevertheless attempted to do so. MP and businessman Kostiantyn Zhevago stated that the new mining and processing plant would provide over 2,000 jobs and generate over 18 billion hryvnias in taxes, while another MP, Yuriy Shapovalov, stated that it could lead to environmental pollution of the Psel River and the evaporation pond of the Kremenchuk Oil Refinery, and force the relocation of residents of nine communities.
In turn, Ivan Rybak stated that there is still no design documentation for the construction.
Based on this, Tomenko decided to postpone consideration of the issue until after the elections, and the leader of the PORUCH movement, Vitaliy Maletsky, stated that no decisions would be made without taking into account the opinions of residents of Kremenchuk and the Poltava region.
