KPI students appealed to the Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov.
They are asking for protection from armed robbers and... soldiers from the Presidential Regiment. A well-known blogger and KPI graduate, Andrey Brodetsky, appealed to Avakov.
He says this is practically the only chance to get through to the police. "Over the past few months, the crime situation on Kyiv's largest student campus—the KPI campus (from the KPI metro station to Shuliavka)—has worsened critically."
Every day, students' backpacks, bicycles, and phones are stolen. This includes outright muggings in broad daylight. On October 1st, several members of the Presidential Regiment assaulted a KPI student right in front of a store's security cameras. They were detained by students from the KPI volunteer security team, but the police did everything they could to cover for the hooligans and released them on bail to a drunken squad leader. On October 6th, in KPI Park, people were robbed at gunpoint.
"Repeated appeals to the administration and local police have yielded no tangible results. The administration holds meetings and promises to "take action." The police are failing. Or don't want to cope—many students have reported how their complaints were simply "lost" at the police stations..." the blogger wrote.
