The Kyiv Court of Appeal rejected the Prosecutor General's Office's appeal against the decision of the Solomensky District Court of Kyiv to close the criminal case against former MP Yuriy Ivanyushchenko.
According to Serhiy Gorbatyuk, head of the Prosecutor General's Office's Special Investigations Department, the court simply refused to consider it and announced it would file a complaint with the Higher Specialized Court. Until that court's decision, the Prosecutor General's Office will not close Ivanyushchenko's case.
It's worth recalling that on January 27, the court closed the criminal case against the former MP for illicit enrichment. The case involved 72 million Swiss francs, as well as the embezzlement of 170 million hryvnias in public funds received from the Japanese government for the sale of greenhouse gas emission quotas. The reason for this was a lack of evidence against the former MP.
Earlier, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov stated that Ivanyushchenko was connected to the "titushki" (illegal gangsters) who kidnapped and killed Maidan activists.
