Judge Serhiy Kovtun of the Kyiv Commercial Court, who transferred Mezhyhirya to state ownership, turned out to be instrumental in the privatization of Ukrtelecom.

Kovtun made a total of about 250 "necessary" decisions regarding Ukrtelecom, which allowed the company to be privatized without any problems, gain a monopoly on 3G, and avoid paying taxes.

Interestingly, the judge has yet to come under the scrutiny of lustration authorities, despite becoming "famous" for his decisions to facilitate the privatization of a number of real estate assets, including enterprises, land plots, and so on. Meanwhile, contact with the authorities during the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych was maintained through Eduard Stavytsky and Vasyl Dzharty.

It's also curious that after Yanukovych's escape, Kovtun continued to operate and employ corporate raiding schemes. Specifically, he decided to freeze the accounts of one bank, blocking 18 million hryvnias.

It should be noted that Kovtun refused to meet with journalists, and his property was registered to relatives.
