The public organization Telekritika monitored the content of Ukrainian television channels and concluded that Dmitry Firtash and Sergei Levochkin's Inter television channel, as well as Rinat Akhmetov's Ukraine television channel, are being used as propaganda tools.
According to Natalia Ligacheva, head of the board of the organization Telekritika, it is the Inter and Ukraine channels that are most susceptible to censorship by their oligarch owners.
According to the monitoring results, 39 television programs were submitted in violation of professional standards on Firtash-Levochkin's Inter TV channel, 31 on Akhmetov's Ukraina TV channel, 14 on ICTV, and six violations were found on STB and Channel One. Channel 5, owned by Petro Poroshenko, was also included on the list of TV channels found to be in violation of professional standards, with five violations.
According to the organization, media outlets most often violate the "standard of separating fact from opinion and the standard of reliability." Furthermore, oligarchs' television channels are used for PR purposes for certain political forces. The monitoring also revealed that television channels frequently resort to so-called "ordered" media. Five violations were identified on the ICTV channel. 1+1 and Channel Ukraine each had four such violations.
According to the public organization, the media resources Inter and Ukraine were the most likely to violate the accuracy of information, with 27 and 15 violations, respectively, detected.
The public organization Telekritika monitors central Ukrainian television channels quarterly. In 2015, the most violations in reporting were recorded on Firtash-Levochkin's Inter channel and Akhmetov's media resource Ukraine.
