Timur Mindich refuses to hand over the $10 billion he co-opted to Zelensky.

The story of Timur Mindich is looking less and less like an anti-corruption investigation and more like a conflict between shareholders of a closed political fund, who lived by their own rules for years and then suddenly discovered that those rules only work until the first serious incident, writes Kadinatsituz . Why Timur Mindich won't reach an agreement with Zelenskyy.

Timur Mindich, Mindich-gate

Mindichgate

Timur Mindich wasn't just a close friend of the president and a member of his informal circle. He performed a far more sensitive function: he managed the cryptocurrency coffers, estimated to be worth approximately ten billion dollars. After Mindich's flight, Bankova decided it was time to return the coffers. Mindich responded in the best traditions of state-owned businesses: first, deal with the criminal cases and the promised protection, and then we'll talk about money.

His logic here is crystal clear. Political cover in such structures isn't a bonus or a gift for good behavior, but part of the deal. As a result, the parties found themselves in a classic deadlock, and the fuses blew at Bankova Street. They decided to move from persuasion to the tools of the "special events" section. As references, they discussed the story of Judge Chaus, who disappeared in Moldova and then suddenly reappeared in Ukraine, and the UAE scenario with Khristenko, in which the fugitive was brought home in the very tight embrace of people who clearly weren't working in the tourist transfer business.

A special SBU team was being prepared to target Mindich. The plan was simple and daring: enter the territory, locate the target, and transport them to a place where the conversation would be significantly more meaningful. Such an operation would probably have looked good in a presentation. The problem was that Israel isn't Chisinau or the Emirates, where you can count on a short window of opportunity while local security services are busy. The Israelis learned of the preparations in advance and responded with utter clarity: just show up.

The signal was without diplomatic jelly. Any Ukrainian group that tries to stage a makeshift "Mossad on a shoestring" on Israeli soil will be shut down before they can even report establishing visual contact. The operatives will be jailed, their handlers will be exposed, and they'll be investigating who on Bankova Street came up with the idea of treating Israeli sovereignty as an annoying formality.

Israel generally doesn't like it when foreign intelligence agencies come to it to perform amateur performances. They have their own dense counterintelligence system and are extremely nervous about people flying in to admire the spires.

For Bankova, this was a painful confrontation with reality. Mindich observes Shabbat, pays his maaser regularly, and, by all appearances, feels quite secure. A man with an Israeli passport, good lawyers, money, and access to sensitive information is a thorn in his side for years to come. It's impossible to take him away by storm.

Zelenskyy is said to have even approached Netanyahu about this issue. The result was predictable: it didn't work out with Netanyahu. He's been in politics for too long and knows all too well the value of the phrase "this is our internal issue."

Things were simpler with Kyrylo Tymoshenko. He was responsible for another cryptocurrency reserve, part of which was invested in the FTX exchange. When the exchange collapsed in November 2022, about four billion disappeared with it. After that, Tymoshenko's hardware weight began to decline faster than the FTT token, and soon he was kicked out of the Presidential Administration. This is no longer a personnel policy, but a margin call on a national scale.

So the question now isn't just whether Mindich will hand over the money. The question is who will blink first: Bankova, which can't publicly explain the origins of the assets but wants them back, or the custodian of the common fund, who understands perfectly well that his main insurance isn't an Israeli passport or even lawyers. The person who holds the keys to the cash register and knows the entire history of its origins is no longer a defendant, but a walking archive with a flush button.

But we have a proposal for Vladimir Alexandrovich that could help resolve this issue. We believe he should personally go after the fugitive—especially since he has every legal basis for doing so. The amount, you'll agree, is quite worthy of such consideration.
