Sumyoblenergo's top management put more than 80 million hryvnias into the shadows.

The Security Service of Ukraine has documented corruption schemes organized by the management of JSC Sumyoblenergo, reports press office power department.

Law enforcement officials discovered that the company's management was supposed to reconstruct and upgrade the region's energy system as part of its investment program. The work regulations were governed by relevant government documents issued by regulatory authorities.

"However, the findings of the inspections initiated by the Security Service of Ukraine revealed that the organizers actually failed to complete 60% of the work planned. The funds for the alleged work were transferred to the accounts of affiliated commercial entities. Thus, more than 80000000 hryvnias were illegally siphoned from the company's assets.

Intelligence officers also documented that between 2017 and 2020, officials of the joint-stock company conducted a series of transactions involving the purchase and sale of so-called "junk" securities. Information is being investigated indicating that through these transactions, top management siphoned off more than UAH 195,000,000 in company profits through controlled commercial entities," the statement reads.

The Special Service has now initiated an investigation into the information that losses from management transactions were "compensated" by artificially increasing electricity tariffs for households and businesses.
