MP Mykola Martynenko, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Fuel and Energy, is linked to a new hydrocarbon trader for the Odesa Port Plant. This was reported in a blog post by Segil Musayeva-Borovyk, Editor-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Pravda publication.

She notes that although the evidence for a connection may seem insufficient at first glance, it takes a little time to find it.

It is known that the Odesa Port Plant entered into a gas supply contract with the Austrian company System Actives GmbH. The latter had never previously been involved in hydrocarbon supplies or chemical exports. In all likelihood, the company was created specifically for the gas supply contract for the Odesa Port Plant.

Ninety percent of the company's share capital is owned by the Swiss company Universal Exports Holding AG, headquartered in Cham. Another 10% is owned by Austrian entrepreneur and lawyer Eugen Jakob Hinrichs-Schramm.

Until May 2015, System Actives GmbH specialized in the telecommunications business. Its sole owner was listed as Leonid Marchuk, an Austrian resident with Ukrainian roots.

MP Martynenko's connection to Leonid Marchuk can be established as follows. Until 2007, Marchuk was a shareholder and member of the supervisory board of Starobabansky Granite Quarry CJSC. Mikhail Vergelis was the chairman of the supervisory board of the CJSC and Marchuk's partner. Vergelis managed the company KSK IKO, which was controlled by Zhvania-Martynenko's company BRINKFORD. KSK IKO is listed as a founder of the Energoinvest holding company, which in turn owns David Zhvania's bank, Diamantbank. It is also no secret that Zhvania is a long-time associate and business partner of Mykola Martynenko.

Independent sources report that in the summer of 2015, Prime Minister Yatsenyuk and President Poroshenko fought fiercely for control of the Odesa Port Plant, through their business partners and allies. Mykola Martynenko sought control of the Odesa Port Plant on Yatsenyuk's behalf, and Ihor Kononenko sought control on Poroshenko's behalf.

An interesting fact is that, according to the new contract, the entire final product of the OPP (chemical fertilizers and chemical products) will be the property of the gas supplier, System Actives GmbH. The state-owned entity, in turn, will lose out on a significant amount of foreign currency profit.
