President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been asked to pay attention to the actions of Odesa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov. The head of state has already responded to the petition, writes 24.
The corresponding petition was registered on September 12. It garnered nearly 25,5 signatures.

He noted that local government officials are obligated to act only on the basis of, within the scope of their authority, and in the manner stipulated by the Constitution and laws of Ukraine. At the same time, according to the Criminal Code, a person is innocent until proven guilty and convicted. The president also reiterated that no one can be forced to do anything that is not provided for by law.
Early termination of the powers of the Odessa mayor Gennady Trukhanov is possible only on the grounds provided for in Article 79 of the Law of Ukraine “On Local Self-Government in Ukraine”,

He added that, according to law, the voluntary acquisition of another state's citizenship by an adult Ukrainian citizen is one of the grounds for loss of Ukrainian citizenship. In turn, the State Migration Service of Ukraine is responsible for preparing applications regarding the loss of citizenship and submitting them for review by the Citizenship Commission.
Therefore, according to Zelensky, providing a legal assessment of Trukhanov's activities, possibly including criminal prosecution, deprivation of citizenship, and removal from office, does not fall within the president's constitutional powers.
«In light of the above, I have sent letters to the Security Service of Ukraine and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine requesting that they verify the information provided. The author of this electronic petition will be informed of the outcome of the review of the issues raised.“,” the head of state concluded.
