MP Oleksandr Onyshchenko, a member of Ihor Yeremeyev's "People's Will" parliamentary group, introduced a bill to the Verkhovna Rada (VRU) proposing the nationalization of Ihor Kolomoisky's PrivatBank. Bill No. 2365 has been registered in parliament. The text of the bill is not yet available on the Verkhovna Rada website.
PrivatBank responded to Delo.ua that Onyshchenko's actions are a provocation and a foolish act, unrelated to economic reality and the legislative process. Kolomoisky's PrivatBank press service also proposes that the Verkhovna Rada consider a bill that would prohibit MPs with low IQs from submitting bills.
Privat Bank is Ukraine's largest commercial bank, with assets totaling UAH 204,6 billion at the end of 2014. According to the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), the bank accounts for 26% of retail deposits in the banking system and 15% of the country's banking system assets. Privat Bank accounts for approximately half of the Ukrainian payment card market. The bank was founded in 1992. Its largest shareholders are Gennadiy Bogolyubov and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Governor Ihor Kolomoisky, who each own 37% of the shares, as well as Triantal Investments Ltd. with 16%.
As a reminder, PrivatBank received a UAH 850 million stabilization loan from the NBU in December 2014. In January 2015, the NBU provided the financial institution with another UAH 2,38 billion stabilization loan.
MP Oleksandr Onyshchenko is known in the media as an avid party-goer, a connoisseur of beautiful women and expensive thoroughbred horses.
