Kostiantyn Raevskyi, Deputy Director of the NBU's General Department of Banking Supervision, told reporters that the National Bank has confirmed the absence of the Ministry of Finance among VAB Bank's potential investors. Raevskyi also stated that the search for potential investors for VAB Bank will be completed at the end of January. However, he believes this process will drag on for at least another month: "They only have a tender for potential investors until February 1st. There are applications, and they will most likely extend the tender for another month to review them," the NBU representative emphasized.
Raevsky also added that payments to depositors will begin in early February through the Deposit Guarantee Fund for Individuals. Funds have been allocated for this purpose, and if necessary, funds can be raised from the state budget or through a loan from the National Bank of Ukraine.
VAB Bank is owned by Oleh Bakhmatyuk. Bakhmatyuk's bank began experiencing problems with deposit withdrawals after the former president and his entourage fled Ukraine.
VAB Bank has not returned deposits to its clients since March 2014, citing a lack of funds. However, in April, VAB Bank received over 1 billion hryvnias in refinancing from the National Bank of Ukraine. As a reminder, in October, the National Bank of Ukraine declared VAB Bank insolvent, and a temporary administration was subsequently appointed.
