Volodymyr Avramenko, one of the co-owners of the confectionery company AVK, has received permission from the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) to purchase Trust Bank. Leonid Antonenko, Director of the National Bank's Registration and Licensing Department, announced this on his Facebook page.
"Since the beginning of the year, the National Bank has granted permission to change or establish control over three banks: Kazkommertsbank (the largest Kazakh banking group) was allowed to establish control over BTA Bank, ProCreditHolding (a large European banking holding) was allowed to increase its control over ProCreditBank, and Mr. Avramenko (the owner of the country's largest confectionery business) was allowed to establish control over Trust Bank, previously owned by Russian citizens," Antonenko wrote.
Currently, Trust Bank is owned by Russian businessmen Nikolai Fetisov, Sergey Belyaev, and Ilya Yurov. In the winter of 2014, Trust Bank's Russian counterpart was placed under external management by the Deposit Insurance Agency (in Ukraine, this procedure is carried out by the Deposit Guarantee Fund).
It's worth noting that AVK is one of the largest confectionery manufacturers. The company operates four factories located in Dnipro, Luhansk, Mukachevo, and occupied Donetsk.
