Ukrinterenergo is incurring daily losses and may go bankrupt due to the actions of the Prosecutor General's Office.

UkrinterenergoEmployees of the Ukrinterenergo company sent a collective letter to the President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister, stating that due to the actions of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine in the case of coal imports from South Africa, their company is on the verge of bankruptcy.

Currently, the South African coal import contract is blocked due to numerous investigative actions by the Prosecutor General's Office and pressure on the company's employees and foreign partners. Steel Mont, a South African company, is scheduled to deliver 500 tons of coal to Ukraine today, amounting to six shiploads. Half of this amount, 247,857 tons, has already been successfully shipped. The remaining deliveries have been disrupted. Ukrinterenergo has prepaid 20% of the coal. If the situation continues, the coal will be sold to other buyers at a price that will likely be reduced.

As noted by Ukrinterenergo, the company is unable to pay for coal because its consumer, PJSC Centrenergo, is afraid to purchase it due to these events.

Due to the fact that deliveries of the remaining coal batches have been suspended, the South African company may present a claim to Ukrinterenergo for compensation for losses in the amount of 10% of the cost of unpaid coal and compensation for the forced downtime of ships in ports, which would amount to $15 per day.

These amounts could lead Ukrinterenergo to inevitable bankruptcy and, consequently, the state will also suffer huge losses.

Steel Mont also stated that the information disclosed by the Prosecutor General's Office that coal from South Africa was purchased by the state-owned enterprise Ukrinterenergo at a price of $134 per ton is incorrect. And no one except the prosecutor's office questioned the quality of the supplied coal.
