Ukroboronprom CEO Roman Romanov stated in a media interview that his agency had purchased British armored vehicles for the Ukrainian army. However, as journalists from the "Groshi" program discovered, it turns out that the "Saxons" (the name of the armored vehicles purchased) are completely unsuitable for combat.
"This year, we're sending our first Dozor-B armored vehicles to the troops. Before that, we were meeting the need with those same British Saxons. At a time when Ukrainian industry simply couldn't produce armored vehicles, those 75 Saxons were the best option for saving lives," Romanov said on January 22.
Journalists from the "Groshi" program explained why the CEO's statement bears no relation to reality. When this interview was published, British armored vehicles were not present in eastern Ukraine, and they were not saving anyone's lives. The journalists learned from their own sources that on January 22, during this eloquent interview with the Ukroboronprom director, the armored vehicles were being loaded onto the British vessel Caribbean Trader. Its scheduled arrival in Ukraine was February 9. However, according to the latest information, the Caribbean Trader had only just crossed the Bosphorus Strait yesterday morning.
It is known that each Saxon armored vehicle cost the Ukrainian budget 30 pounds sterling, plus transportation costs of approximately $270. This scandalous deal was concluded by the company Ukrinmash. When Groshi journalists attempted to meet Roman Romanov in person in the Ukroboronprom parking lot to ask questions about the deal, he quickly disappeared in an elite car. It was also reported that the luxury car was purchased with funds from the state enterprise and is worth no less than a British armored personnel carrier.
Military experts are also convinced that the British Saxons will not be deployed to the front, as they require a significant investment in upgrading. Therefore, journalists believe that the current Ukroboronprom leadership orchestrated this scam involving the purchase of British military equipment precisely to launder budget funds.
