Ukrposhta's post offices will be equipped with pickup points for services from a competitor of the state-owned company. This is deliberately depriving Ukrposhta of its advantages.
Ukrposhta is being deliberately deprived of its future prospects, hindering the state-owned enterprise's development. This opinion was expressed by Andriy Khoroshevsky, former head of Ukrposhta's Kyiv directorate, commenting on the company's failure to win a tender for the construction of sorting centers in Kyiv, Lviv, and Dnipropetrovsk, which could have reduced delivery times and increased its competitiveness.
According to him, after Mykhailo Pankiv took over as CEO of Ukrposhta, most orders from large corporate clients began to be transferred from the state-owned enterprise to the courier service Mist Express, where Pankiv previously held a management position.
Former Deputy General Director of Ukrposhta, Gennady Vovk, believes that as a result of the current top management's actions, the company will be left with only marginally profitable, if not completely unprofitable, areas—such as periodical subscriptions or pension payments.
Experts predict that if the government doesn't intervene, Ukrposhta branches in major cities will be taken over by Mist Express as early as next year, while less "attractive" Ukrposhta branches in the provinces may be closed.
Despite the economic crisis, the owners of the courier service Mist Express have openly announced plans to create their own network. More than 2,5 branches are expected to open by May 2015. Mist Express calls the addition of its own branches to the state-owned operator's offices "a global practice."
The state-owned enterprise's staff had previously appealed to the previous leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure, demanding an assessment of Mykhailo Pankiv's actions, but there was no response. Ukrposhta hopes that the appointment of the new minister, Andriy Pyvovarskyi, offers hope that Ukraine will be able to preserve the enterprise in the future.
