Ukrtelecom should go bankrupt – this initiative was put forward by representatives of the Verkhovna Rada Commission on Privatization.
The commission proposed this option to the Verkhovna Rada, citing the company's failure to restore damaged or destroyed communication lines. It is noted that this was not permitted under state ownership.
Commission head Boris Filatov also stated that the company was essentially purchased with funds from state-owned banks, and that this money has still not been returned to the banking institutions. He also requested that the Antimonopoly Committee, the State Property Fund, and the Prosecutor General's Office investigate the privatization process for violations.
As a reminder, Ukrtelecom was previously acquired by a Cypriot company, which is effectively a front for oligarch Rinat Akhmetov. The deal is also linked to senior Ukrainian officials close to Viktor Yanukovych.
