Effective February 1 of next year, Ukrtelecom PJSC will cease providing telephone services at all levels at its call centers. Fax and computer services will also be discontinued.
The reasons for this decision have not yet been disclosed, but given the declining demand for such services, it is likely a cost-cutting measure. Unfortunately, there is no word yet on whether any alternative will be provided, as in larger cities, the situation can be resolved through mobile phone service and internet. In rural areas, local phone service is often poor, and mobile coverage is either nonexistent or quite patchy.
According to the company's press service, Ukrtelecom is currently focusing on the development of IP telephony and internet technologies. It should also be noted that in October 2013, the company was acquired by Rinat Akhmetov's SCM holding company.
