Markiyan Lubkivskyi, advisor to the head of the SBU, reported on his Facebook page that officers from the Main Directorate of the SBU, together with their colleagues from the Prosecutor General's Office, are conducting procedural and investigative actions, including searches, at the Football Federation of Ukraine (FFU). This is being done as part of an open criminal case under Articles 191 and 209 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: misappropriation, embezzlement, or acquisition of property through abuse of office, as well as money laundering.
The FFU leadership links the raid and searches to the upcoming presidential elections, scheduled for March 6, 2015. The current head of the FFU, Anatoly Konkov, will serve as acting president until March 2015.
It was previously reported that a criminal case had been opened against the FFU leadership, and in particular against Anatoly Konkov, under Part 2 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, "Legalization (laundering) of funds and other property obtained by criminal means by prior conspiracy by a group of persons."
One of the main arguments against Konkov is his numerous business trips to Europe, which cost the FFU 215 hryvnias. He was also accused by his subordinates of unjustifiably increasing the number of new FFU employees by more than 30, including many incompetent and unqualified individuals close to Konkov.
