The 2014 capital city budget does not allocate funds for gas for the Eternal Flame. The funeral service of the Specialized Enterprise "Spetskombinat KPBO" is asking PJSC Kyivgaz to limit gas supplies to the Eternal Flame.
KV learned about this from correspondence between PJSC Kyivgaz and the Kyiv City State Administration.
In a letter to Kyivgaz, the Funeral Service of the Specialized Enterprise "Spetskombinat KPBO" complained about the lack of funds to pay for gas for the Eternal Flame. The service attributes the current situation to the company's difficult economic situation and rising gas prices. However, the funeral service claims that reimbursement for the company's expenses for Eternal Flame maintenance is not included in this year's budget.
To avoid incurring debt, the funeral service is asking Kyivgaz PJSC to limit gas supplies to the Eternal Flame.
Gas workers, in turn, insist that there is no technical possibility of restricting gas supplies, and the company can only completely cut off the supply of natural gas to the memorial site.
According to Kyivgaz, the average annual amount of energy required to keep the Eternal Flame burning is 34,670 cubic meters, at a cost of 216,600 UAH.
