Prosecutors are found in murky waters

The prosecutor is the chief, legal representative of the prosecution, a civil servant with a degree in law, whose responsibilities include exercising prosecutorial oversight and coordinating crime-fighting activities. What a noble profession!

But as the saying goes: Every family has its black sheep! How insulting it must be for genuine, honest prosecutors to discover within their ranks a scoundrel, a villain, a vile, slippery worm, who undermines faith in justice and even the very foundations of the state.

Everyone probably still remembers the horrific incident of August 20, 2014, when a real robbery of the Graff store took place in the very center of Kyiv, just steps from the Maidan, which had purged the country of thieves. Its organizer and "brilliant" execution was the senior prosecutor of the Pechersk district, a certain Pavel Kozlov, along with his accomplices from the district police. To the credit of the Prosecutor General's Office, those suspects who didn't manage to escape and scurried like cockroaches into cracks were arrested and criminal proceedings were initiated against them.

Pavel Kozlov – the "famous" prosecutor

Kozlov, obviously enjoying the protection of his superiors, didn't go into hiding and acted defiantly upon his arrest, openly threatening to turn in his patrons if he wasn't released immediately. However, he only laughed at the offer to voluntarily hand over the loot. When the pretrial detention center doors slammed behind him, his demeanor changed dramatically, not toward remorse, but rather a thirst for revenge against the store employees and its owners.
The trial court ordered Kozlov's release on bail of 5,000,000 hryvnias. However, the "prosecutor's" backers, fearing he knew too much, managed to reduce the bail to 340,000 hryvnias, effectively giving him the opportunity to abscond or, quite possibly, silence him forever.

This case could have become an example of the current government's ability to cleanse itself, but as it unfolds, it becomes clear that the Maidan has changed nothing, but only stirred up and brought to the surface all the basest scum, in which it has become much easier to "fish," rob, and kill.
