In the Rivne region, amber is being illegally mined with the tacit consent of law enforcement.

they are digging illegallyA report on the ZIK TV channel's "Oglyad Dnya" program reported that law enforcement agencies in the Rivne region failed to detect amber theft in the Sarny district. However, on Tuesday, December 23, ZIK journalists captured video footage of hundreds of people illegally mining amber in the Galbin tract. This all occurred practically under the eyes of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

A video was filmed where the "amber men" (that's what they're called in the Rivne region) directly hint to the film crew "not to poke their noses into this matter."

The next day, journalists contacted the head of the Rivne regional police department, asking him to look into the matter. Sergei Maksimov promised by phone to take control of the illegal mining of "sunstone" in the Sarny district and comment on the matter. Later, a film crew arrived at the regional police department to personally interview the chief of police. However, some law enforcement officers were immediately displeased with filming in the building. They ordered the cameras to be turned off. They then even asked the film crew to leave the corridor leading to the chief of police's office.

Nevertheless, "Oglyad Dnya" managed to gain access to the chief's office. However, the Rivne region's chief police officer's conclusions were disappointing: "Law enforcement officers reported to me that when they arrived at the designated location, in the Galbin tract, they did not find anyone illegally mining amber. We will conduct an internal investigation. If police officers were indeed there and witnessed amber mining, then we will take the appropriate action," commented Serhiy Maksymov.

While law enforcement officials are trying to figure things out, the film crew filed a police report regarding lawlessness in the Sarny district and threats to journalists.
