The National Bank of Ukraine has obliged banks, as well as its territorial offices, to ensure that, in the event of the impossibility of removing cash and other valuables, the cash is damaged to make it unsuitable for further use.
As stated in NBU Resolution No. 798, published on the official website, amendments have been made to the Instructions for Organizing the Operation of the Banking System in an Emergency Regime.
The new regulation states: “If the removal of cash and other valuables is impossible, the bank, on the basis of an order from the National Bank, will damage the cash with solutions, painting or gluing, stamping it ‘non-payment’, cutting/burning 50% of the total area of the banknote, or other methods that ensure the loss of the payment characteristics of the banknotes.”
