Is there an investigation into General Naumov in Ukraine as well?
As the person who introduced the former Brigadier General Naumov to the world, I continue to follow his adventures, so I report (on ORD).
Firstly, he is in custody – recently the High Court of Niš (Serbia) extended Andrei Naumov’s detention until December 2.
Secondly, he is still being held there on suspicion of money laundering (as the presence of precious stones and cash during his arrest clearly suggested). This investigation is being conducted by the Special Anti-Corruption Unit of the High Prosecutor's Office in Niš. The former SBU officer himself denies all charges and, for the first time, invited representatives of the Ukrainian Embassy to meet.
And third, my favorite. According to Mr. Naumov's defense attorney, he believes there are NO investigations against him in Ukraine… quote:He has no information about this. Mr. Naumov has always maintained that no proceedings or investigations have been conducted against him in Ukraine.ya».
But the most interesting thing in this situation is something else.
Investigation into General Naumov
Apparently, the Serbian investigation is also connected to Ukrainian affairs; at least they have invited some documents and are awaiting a response.
However, it is more difficult for me to find out what is happening in the Ukrainian legal field than in foreign ones.
Our inquiries to the State Bureau of Investigation and the Prosecutor General's Office went unanswered. The Security Service of Ukraine has historically refused to comment on these matters, both during Naumov's tenure and afterward (to be fair, to my knowledge, there are currently no ongoing investigations into him within the Security Service).
Yes, it was beautiful when, after our RFERL report on Naumov's escape and the searches, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded quickly and publicly. But time passes, and the public deserves to know what's happening with the case against the man who, during a full-scale invasion, made global headlines, casting both the intelligence agency itself and all of Ukraine in a dubious light.
