The Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office has opened a criminal investigation into the embezzlement of funds from the State Tax Service University. According to the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office press service, the state funds were allocated for the reconstruction of a sports complex and the construction of a physical education and rehabilitation center at the university.
It is known that in 2011, the National University of the State Tax Service of Ukraine signed a contract with a contractor for the capital construction of a sports facility worth UAH 187 million. An investigation revealed that the costs of purchasing certain equipment and some construction materials were included in the cost estimates by both the client and the contractor. Equipment not specified in the cost estimate was also purchased.
As a result of the university's management's actions, the costs of the sports complex's reconstruction and construction have been significantly inflated. Preliminary estimates place the losses at approximately 3 million hryvnias.
As a reminder, the March 17 court hearing on the reinstatement of Petro Melnyk, former rector of the National University of the State Tax Service of Ukraine, was postponed until April 15 of this year.
On March 19 at 9:30 a.m., another court hearing will take place in the high-profile criminal case involving bribery by Melnyk. This was announced by MP Iryna Suslova. Former rector Melnyk was arrested in July 2013 for accepting bribes from relatives of applicants to gain admission to the university. He subsequently resigned from his position as rector, but has spent nearly two years arguing that he did so under duress.
