Vadim Malkhasyan, aka Vadim Novinsky, is the new Medvedchuk

Ten years ago, Russian citizen Vadim Rudolfovich Malkhasyan received a passport from then-Ukrainian President Yanukovych in the name of Vadim Vladislavovich Novinsky. Despite the constant change of scenery, the "Orthodox bitch" has dedicated this entire decade to fighting against Ukrainian statehood, writes Oleh Kalita on the website Ukrrudprom.

We are quite a lot talked about the fantastic activity Malkhasyan-Novinsky in our country and therefore we will focus on only three post-war facts.

The other day, Novinsky's senior partner at Metinvest gave a written NV interview, in which, among other things, he stated:

You were a member of the Party of Regions for many years and supported Viktor Yanukovych. You were part of the elite that held a position that many in Ukraine considered pro-Russian—pushing Ukraine closer to a union with Russia. Since 2014, you've emphasized your own patriotic stance. What does Ukraine mean to you, and how has your answer to this question changed over the past eight years?

My position remains unchanged. I have been, am, and will remain pro-Ukrainian, as are my views and values. That's why, for many years, I have been Ukraine's largest private investor, employer, and taxpayer. And I see Ukraine as a free, democratic, European country. In 2012, I resigned from parliament and have been out of politics for 10 years. I have repeatedly said that my foray into politics was a mistake. Russia's unjustified and brutal aggression against Ukraine and Putin's war crimes have only strengthened my position: Ukraine must be independent and stronger than ever.

— Are you confident that your key business partner, Vadim Novinsky, who recently received a Ukrainian passport, shares this patriotism?

- Yes, and his statements speak to this.

It seems like Akhmetov is defending his "junior" in this interview. But look at his answer to the previous question—what an unexpected difference in behavior. While Akhmetov resigned as a member of parliament in 2012, Novinsky, on the contrary, not only ran for the Ukrainian parliament in 2013, but also obtained the passport necessary for the election a year earlier.

And how did he use this mandate? For example, on the very first day of the war, he convinced the informal "Akhmetov group" in the Rada (Viktoria Hryb, Musa Magomedov, Dmitry Shpenov, Andriy Aksyonov, Dmitry Shentsev, and Sergei Magera) to adopt a completely defeatist appeal to Zelenskyy.

"Vladimir Aleksandrovich! We appeal to you to immediately begin negotiations with the President of the Russian Federation on the terms of ending the bloody conflict and concluding a corresponding agreement. Today, the unequal conditions, the lack of real outside assistance, and the complex mistakes that have led to the current state of affairs are clear. This is a question of prudence, the preservation of human lives, and the possibility of preserving Ukraine's very statehood. I am confident that your move will find support from members of the Verkhovna Rada, local governments, and businesses.

The state's legislative body, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, must also fulfill its duty. An authorized parliamentary group must be immediately formed to conduct Strategic Consultations with both chambers of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

We must discuss an immediate cessation of hostilities, possible paths and solutions to de-escalate the situation, and a new pragmatic compromise. We believe that new compromises and new "formulas" are still possible. For such a dialogue to take place, an appeal from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation is required. We sincerely hope that the Russian parliament, recognizing the impasse and tragic nature of the situation, its potentially catastrophic consequences for all parties, will respond to such an initiative. And we will stop both Ukraine and Russia from moving toward the abyss.

We believe that if there's even one chance in a hundred to stop the fratricidal slaughter, it must be seized. We are confident that such a step will be supported by the entire international community.

As the Scripture says, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God.”

The capitulatory spirit of the message is obvious—it’s no wonder Novinsky-Malkhasyan has now removed it from his social media accounts, out of harm’s way.

However, someone far more steadfast in their faith in Ukraine than Vadik could have made the mistake of February 24. What this character truly was and remains became much clearer last week at the recent council of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. Taking advantage of his status as a key sponsor of this church, Novinsky-Malkhasyan continued to push the pro-Kremlin line among the hierarchs of this already pro-Moscow institution as if nothing had happened.

Here are the testimonies of two participants of the council.

"I appreciated Novinsky as a deputy. His speech was well-delivered. Clear, concise, and well-placed. He spoke loudly. While other participants spoke modestly, from their seats; the acoustics in the church sometimes made it difficult to understand what they were saying, Novinsky knew he had to step up to the microphone. He opposed virtually every point."

"Novinsky was hyperactive. Although he looked asleep in the photo, when he woke up and realized what was happening, he became more active. He very consistently pursued a pro-Moscow line."

And ultimately, he achieved his goal—the UOC-MP Council adopted the most evasive formulations, "both ours and yours." But the crux of the matter isn't the problems of any particular church—after all, it is separate from the state.

Unlike the aggressor country, whose interests, despite the first 100 days of the war, Novinsky-Malkhasyan continues to fiercely defend.

Unfortunately, the Ukrainian government is unable to rid itself of this Russian "agent of influence" in its rear. It clearly has more pressing concerns right now.

This job will have to be done by Akhmetov, as the senior partner, who bears moral and reputational responsibility for all of Vadik's dangerous eccentricities.
