Yesterday's searches at the Kyiv District Administrative Court – pressure on Themis?

Kyiv administrative courtYesterday's searches at the Kyiv District Administrative Court constituted pressure on judicial officials and were conducted illegally. This opinion was expressed in the court's official statement.

According to court officials, the only motive for compelling law enforcement officers to conduct the search was to influence the objectivity of court decisions in certain high-profile cases. Specifically, this was to generate publicity, given that the District Administrative Court is hearing a number of cases in which the Prosecutor General's Office and law enforcement agencies are interested parties. These cases personally concern certain law enforcement officials under the "Law on the Purification of Authority." The court also believes that the reason given by law enforcement officers for the searches (the decision of the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Chernivtsi) is unlawful.

"Therefore, it is logical to conclude that the actions of law enforcement agencies, as representatives of state authorities, are in the nature of revenge for court decisions previously made not in favor of the authorities, but to protect the rights, freedoms, and interests of Ukrainian citizens," the court believes.

As a reminder, a search was conducted yesterday at the Kyiv District Administrative Court. Law enforcement officials cited the discovery of judges making decisions while they were absent from Ukraine as the reason for the search.
