The Supreme Court has banned the construction of a shopping mall on Pochtova Square in the capital, where a huge number of valuable historical monuments from the Kievan Rus era have been discovered. This was stated in decree Sun.

Previously, the claim to cancel urban planning conditions and restrictions on development of the territory was satisfied in the courts of first and appellate instance.

"By its ruling, the Supreme Court upheld the decision of the trial and appellate courts, which upheld the claim of former MP Natalia Novak to overturn fraudulent construction conditions and development restrictions on Pochtova Square, where a shopping and entertainment center was being built under the guise of renovating a transport interchange. Moreover, the site for this development was financed with public funds," commented Oleksandr Dyadyuk, a representative of the public organization "Kyivites, Unite."

Hanford Ukraine received permission to build a shopping and entertainment center on the Kyiv City State Administration's Postal Square back in 2013.

In the documents, all the work was listed as reconstruction of a transport interchange, and the investor did not even register the right to use the land plots.

But while preparing the excavation pit, the excavator uncovered an ancient wooden street dating back to the Kievan Rus' period in the 11th-12th centuries. Archaeologists discovered a huge number of valuable historical remains, including estates, workshops, palisades, and more.

Given this, city activists demanded that construction of the shopping center be halted and proposed creating a museum that would include the discovered archaeological treasures.
