Former ally of ex-President Yanukovych and Opposition Bloc MP Oleksandr Vilkul announced his intention to run in the Dnipropetrovsk mayoral elections.

The party's statement said Vilkul put forward his candidacy for the leadership of Dnipropetrovsk in order to "preserve Dnipropetrovsk's name and restore its former power and glory."

Dnipropetrovsk currently has no mayor, and Halyna Bulavka is acting mayor. Former Dnipropetrovsk mayor Ivan Kulichenko resigned in November 2014 after being elected to Parliament on the BPP ticket.

As a reminder, Oleksandr Vilkul is a member of Viktor Yanukovych's team. The media has published extensive information about Vilkul's corrupt activities during his tenure as head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration.
