Approximately two hours earlier, at 1:00 PM, Karbunyan was riding his bicycle along Kooperativnaya Street toward downtown. Suddenly, an unknown vehicle blocked his path, from which the perpetrator emerged. Three shots rang out: the first missed, after which Kurbunyan abandoned his bicycle and attempted to flee. The next two shots were more accurate—one of the bullets, according to our information, hit the head, the other the neck.
At the moment, the scene of the incident is surrounded by police officers, and investigative actions are underway.
Mikhail Karbunyan is known for the many years he led the public organization "Gromada" (Hromada), which defended the political and legal interests of citizens. The organization frequently clashed with local entrepreneurs and businessmen, participating in property disputes while defending the interests of local residents. The public organization "Gromada" has approximately 20 members.
Following the high-profile scandal surrounding the murder of Mykhailo Karbunyan, chairman of the Odesa public organization "Gromada," the efforts to apprehend the killers began to unfold rapidly. Odesans are convinced that the murder is connected to the active human rights work carried out and led by M.P. Karbunyan. People unanimously assert that the murdered man raised serious questions about Kiliya and the surrounding area, which law enforcement officials covered up.
Karbunyan also fought against the corporate raiding of local gangster Igor Kapitan, the founder of an organized crime group that engages in arson and violence, and allegedly even has its own torture chamber. Igor Kapitan is involved in land seizures in the city center, but law enforcement remains unresponsive. According to Karbunyan's deputy, a suspected killer has already been detained today, who turns out to be the link leading to MP Barvinenko himself. Specifically, this concerns a security guard at Titan LLC, the director of which is Igor Borisovich Kapitan. And this is where the name of Ukrainian MP Vitaliy Barvinenko, a representative of the Party of Regions, comes up. According to these same Odesans and those close to Titan, Vitaliy Barvinenko is simply covering for Igor Kapitan in his dirty dealings and business dealings! And Igor Kapitan finances his elections in return, since Vitaly Barvinenko isn't used to spending his own money on elections!
The reason for Karbunyan's murder was the security guard's debt to Kapitan. An audit revealed a shortage of goods totaling 2 million hryvnias at the enterprise. An ordinary security guard, of course, wouldn't be able to come up with such a sum, so Igor Kapitan put him on the meter, offering to pay off his debt with one small but crucial task. Knowing he had the parliamentary protection of Vitaliy Barvinenko, Kapitan decided not to be petty in his desires and followed the old logic: no man, no problem. Will law enforcement have the courage to follow through with the murder, not just a pawn?
Residents of Kiliya have gathered outside the courthouse, awaiting the court's decision on the suspect's pretrial detention, which is expected to be announced today. However, as of this evening, no decision has been made. The protesters believe the case is being dragged out by the prosecutor's office, which failed to submit the relevant documents to the court within the day. Anticipating this turn of events, the protesters had already appealed to People's Deputy Oleksandr Dubovoy the day before, asking him to oversee the murder investigation. Dubovoy was quick to respond, and by lunchtime, he had sent parliamentary inquiries to Avakov, Nalyvaychenko, and Yarema, demanding a full-scale investigation and the prosecution of those who ordered the murder.
