The public organization "Association of Investors "Elita-Center" published an open letter to the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin and the mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko, in which they demand the immediate detention of former parliamentary candidate and businessman Vadym Stolar, who was one of the co-founders of "Elita-Center."
Deceived investors are outraged that the organizers of the construction pyramid scheme may escape responsibility. Activists claim that Alexander Shakhov (Volkonsky), a suspect in the Elite-Center case, who has been in pretrial detention for eight years awaiting sentencing, could be released as early as this spring. Under the new "Savchenko Law," a day spent in pretrial detention counts as two days, so he should effectively be released. Shakhov's partner and company co-founder, Vadim Stolar, who was only brought in as a witness in the case, has also yet to be arrested, despite the fact that it was established through legal proceedings that he was a co-founder of Elite-Budinvest and several other companies that were part of the Elite-Center group, Glavkom writes.
The investors demand that law enforcement and other responsible agencies change Vadim Stolar's procedural status and prosecute him as a suspect. The letter's authors also believe Stolar should be detained, as he may flee Ukraine.
The letter's authors recall that, thanks to the organizers of Elite Center, they were forced to live for years in premises unfit for habitation. This scam robbed some investors of their last savings. "Against this backdrop, the prosecutor's inaction against Vadim Stolar appears not only strange but also criminal," the public organization believes.
