The owners of the Miropol paper mill are demanding that the authorities fight back against the raiders.

Shaulsky

This was announced by factory representatives. According to the company's director, A. Shaulsky, unknown armed individuals have been operating at the plant for over two months. They seized the paper mill premises back in October of this year. Since then, authorities have taken no action, much less any action to restore law and order at the plant. This despite the fact that government officials—the Romanovsky District Prosecutor, the head of the Zhytomyr Oblast Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and others—have received numerous requests to repel the raiders.

According to the owners of the Miropolsky paper mill, armed men had been operating illegally at the plant all this time. They carried out production and sold finished products for cash, without paying any taxes. Furthermore, they stopped maintaining the mill's wastewater treatment plant, which could lead to a local environmental disaster.

As the company's director explains, the Myropol paper mill case is a very poor advertisement for the investment climate in the Zhytomyr region. With the owner effectively being kicked out of the mill and the authorities doing nothing, few will risk investing in the region's development. No statements, including those from the regional leadership, will convince anyone that private property rights are protected if such lawlessness continues.

Under pressure from these circumstances, the owners of the Myropol paper mill were forced to appeal to the head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), Valentyn Nalyvaichenko, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Arsen Avakov, and the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Vitaliy Yarema, asking them to intervene in this situation.

According to the mill's director, the owners will defend their rights, as this case concerns not only the Myropol Paper Mill but the entire Ukrainian economy and its future. "If corporate raiding and the protection of illegal schemes at the local level are not combated, Ukraine will become a gray area for investors, and the crisis will only deepen," the statement reads.
