The "Yuzhny B" microdistrict in Odessa's Kyivskyi district, which was allegedly reconstructed with funds from the "People's Budget," remains in a deplorable state. Moreover, as former governor and initiator of the renovations, Eduard Matviychuk, told 368.media, he used "fundamentally new schemes" in 2013.
"We used fundamentally new approaches to renovating the area. Local residents' initiatives were the basis: they came out for cleanup days and restored the area themselves. We, as the Regional State Administration, also worked hand in hand with the city government; there was no conflict. The renovation work was halted for political reasons," he explained.
The MP also added that he's currently "asking" parliament for money for repairs, supposedly small sums, but his colleagues have other things on their minds right now. We note that we previously reported that, according to official data from 2013, the Regional State Administration invested approximately 21 million hryvnias in the district's reconstruction. And that doesn't include the City Council's funding. Meanwhile, construction workers paved over School No. 55's stadium and laid 300 meters of paving stones. The rest of the money simply "vanished."
It's worth noting that some time after 368.media's publication about the MP's neglect of his own constituents, the former governor's website quickly began filling with information about his "good deeds." Furthermore, various propaganda materials from Matviychuk began to be actively distributed throughout the district. In particular, one example of low-quality PR was leaflets with information about how the MP had helped Odesa residents. In them, he noted that "recently" alone, he had secured 60 hryvnias in budgetary funds for a disabled person and had also "resolved the issue of constructing an inter-block passage" on Williams Street.
"This and many other important issues are under the constant control of Ukrainian MP Eduard Matviychuk," the text concludes with such a pompous phrase.
It's impossible to find out what "important issues" the politician is addressing in Odesa. On his official website, Matviychuk boasts about the improvement of an inter-block road near several buildings, which was carried out following his request. Remarkably, the deputy submitted only a few minor requests, as well as one major one. However, the latter doesn't concern Odesa, but is related to road construction in Transcarpathia. Such is the Odesa deputy's Maori-leaning nature. In future publications, the 368.media editorial team will reveal how money was stolen for the "People's Budget" program.
