Former Prosecutor General Vitaliy Yarema is being groomed for the position of Chairman of the State Fiscal Service (formerly the Tax Service – MIR). Mykola Gerasimyuk, who served as Vitaliy Yarema's first deputy at the Prosecutor General's Office, plans to head the Tax Police of Ukraine. This was reported by a source within the State Fiscal Service.

In a telephone conversation with MIR, a source assured that the fiscal service itself considers this personnel decision not an attempt to improve the agency's work, but an attempt to employ Vitaliy Yarema and his trusted representative, Mykola Gerasimyuk.

"As far as we remember, Yarema left the Prosecutor General's Office amidst scandal, because he and his deputies, particularly Mykola Gerasimyuk, were implicated in corruption scandals, but most importantly, they failed to live up to the expectations of a society demanding reform and change. Yarema's unprofessionalism damaged the prosecutor's office, and now, it seems, they want to push him into the tax office, where corruption is even greater," the source says.

As a reminder, it was announced today that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has dismissed the current head of the fiscal service, Igor Bilous.

"Gerasimyuk is a whole other story. All the shadow financial flows in the Prosecutor General's Office were tied to him. Now they want to hand over the tax police to this man. There are no words," the source concludes.

As a reminder, our publication recently reported that Nikolai Gerasimyuk acquired real estate in Zurich.
