Yushchenko and his wife robbed sick children

Yush with his wifeThe bombastic talk about the construction of the "Hospital of the Future" complex, the creation of which was heavily promoted by former Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko and his wife (Kateryna Yushchenko founded the "Children's Hospital of the Future" foundation), turned out to be more than just empty talk, but a clear pretext for accepting banal bribes (Viktor Pinchuk and Rinat Akhmetov were mentioned among the givers) and embezzling funds to enhance their own well-being. This seems quite likely, considering that of the over 262 million hryvnias in charitable donations collected, 174 million hryvnias were clearly intended for the construction of a children's clinic equipped with the latest technology.
Alas, it seems the future of Ukraine's children resembles a monumental project: only about 50 million hryvnias were allocated for it, work never got beyond the initial foundation work, and the contractor (Budova-Center-1) has long since gone bankrupt. No one plans to build it: the state simply doesn't have the money. Kateryna Yushchenko categorically refuses to answer journalists' questions about the fate of the children and the Hospital of the Future, hiding behind bodyguards and the director of the Children's Hospital of the Future foundation (Oleksandr Maksymchuk).
But where is the money? All we've been able to find out is that part of it went toward the creation of the commercial Nova Medical Center, which, according to Maksymchuk, has so far provided free care to children. So far, out of more than 5000 patients, this facility has provided free care to about 300, so the selflessness of its founders and management is clearly questionable (if any). Overall, of the fund's total funds, approximately 60 million hryvnias went toward medical purposes, 50 million hryvnias toward the foundation, and approximately 15 million hryvnias were spent on purchasing equipment for the state-run Cancer Institute and the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology (although 36 million hryvnias were written off).

Where the rest of the money disappeared to is completely unclear (although obvious).
