Yuzhmash is idle without the government orders promised by the President, and its workers are "on vacation."

Yuzhmash Powder

Poroshenko promised to supply the Yuzhmash plant with Ukrainian defense orders.

According to workers at Yuzhmash, Ukraine's largest defense enterprise, they have been sent on unpaid leave until December 25, after which there will be New Year's holidays until January 14. They were sent on leave with the explanation "due to the difficult economic situation." Yuzhmash workers are well aware of what a difficult situation means. They only received their wages for July—700 hryvnias each, and then various amounts were paid to each worker—6%, 8%, for a three-day workweek. For the forced downtime, the workers were promised two-thirds of their normal pay. They don't know when the downtime will end. Rumor has it they'll return in January, work for two weeks, and then "take a rest" until March.

The situation at the plant is truly critical. The plant's accounts have been frozen, and large wage and energy debts have accumulated.

As a reminder, President Poroshenko visited the plant in October. Acknowledging that deliveries to Russia had been suspended, leaving the plant in a difficult situation, he promised to fill the plant with Ukrainian defense orders. The deadline was set for a month after the formation of the new government. The plant's financial and economic recovery plan, which requires funding, has been pending review by the Cabinet of Ministers for a long time. Poroshenko's assistance to the plant has remained at the level of promises.

Yuriy Alekseyev, the former general director of Yuzhmash, was one of the first in Ukraine to be subject to lustration. The agency is run by an acting official who shows no initiative.

Yuzhmash employees are mired in debt, and soon they will simply have nothing to feed their families with.
