Lawyers will defend the Ministry of Justice against Delta Bank's foreign depositors for UAH 11 million.

Delta BankOn September 11, the Ministry of Justice signed a contract with the international law firm Foley Hoag AARPI. The deal was worth UAH 11 million, according to Nashi Groshi, citing the State Procurement Bulletin.

According to the agreement, lawyers from the firm Foley Hoag AARPI will represent Ukraine at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes.

Praktyka Asset Management Company LLC, Prodiz LLC, City-State NV, and Crystal-Invest LLC have filed a lawsuit against Ukraine for UAH 500 million. In their lawsuit, the foreign companies accuse Ukraine of failing to take any measures to protect depositors' rights. The companies seek, through international arbitration, the return of a UAH 211 million deposit placed in 2010 with the Ukrainian Kreditprombank. The financial institution stopped paying interest to its depositors after Mykola Lagun's Delta Bank PJSC was sold in March 2013.

In their lawsuit, the companies claim that Nikolai Lagun siphoned funds from Kreditprombank through the Cypriot offshore companies Kalouma Holdings Limited and Rabiturna Limited to Delta Bank. These Ukrainian financial institutions were subsequently declared insolvent, and Kreditprombank was liquidated in June 2015.
