UAH 24,7 million, designated as bail for former MP Mykola Martynenko, suspected of receiving improper benefits and laundering funds, was deposited into the account of the High Anti-Corruption Court. Sources in anti-corruption agencies told Slovo i Delo this. Ukrrudprom.

According to sources, the funds were deposited on Friday, September 9.

At the same time, the court imposed a number of obligations on the suspect: not to leave Ukraine without permission from the investigator, prosecutor, or court; to arrive upon first request; to notify the pre-trial investigation body of any change in his place of residence; and to refrain from communicating with persons specified in the order.

As reported, on September 6, the Appellate Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) increased the bail of former MP Mykola Martynenko, suspected of money laundering and receiving improper benefits, from UAH 4,9 million to UAH 24,7 million.

In late July, NABU detectives filed a new charge against former MP Mykola Martynenko. According to investigators, in 2014, he received €311,6 from the management of the Czech company ŠKODA JS as (part of the United Machine-Building Plants holding company, owned by Russia's Gazprombank) for assistance in promoting its interests in Ukraine.

Why was bail posted for Nikolai Martynenko?

As a reminder, in May 2018, the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) filed an indictment against former MP Martynenko, as well as Sergei Pereloma, Ruslan Zhuril, Alexander Sorokin, Vladimir Bohdanets, and Valeriy Vasilkov, in a case involving the embezzlement of funds from state-owned enterprises. The case concerns the Voskhod Mining and Processing Plant (VoskhodGOK) and Energoatom, which were involved in the conclusion and execution of contracts for the supply of equipment for the said enterprise from the Czech company Skoda JS, as well as the conclusion and execution of a contract between Skoda JS and Bradcrest Investments SA, totaling €6,4 million.

Furthermore, Martynenko, Pereloma, Zhurilo, Sorokin, and Bogdanets are accused of embezzling $17,28 million from Vostok GOK by illegally concluding and subsequently executing a uranium concentrate purchase and sale contract for Vostok GOK through the Austrian intermediary company Steu Handelsgesellschaft mbH. However, there has been no verdict in this case yet.
