The controversial Lieutenant General and Commander of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Anatoliy Pushnyakov, is implicated in corruption within the Ministry of Defense. This claim was made by Donetsk Airport defender Lieutenant Colonel Dmytro Marchenko of the 79th Mykolaiv Air Defense Brigade.

The lieutenant colonel is outraged by the fact that General Pushnyakov has still not been vetoed. It is Pushnyakov who "sits on the money flow" and controls the foreign assignments of Ukrainian military personnel within the Ministry of Defense. To travel abroad, service members must pay Pushnyakov, through his accomplices, approximately $5.

Moreover, on August 21, President Poroshenko made General Pushnyakov a full Knight of the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky. This award is known to be bestowed upon heroes for exceptional merits in the defense of national independence.

Battalion Commander Marchenko noted that the lieutenant general had previously "distinguished himself" in several compromising actions. When Battalion Commander "Mike" of the 79th Airborne Brigade presented Pushnyakov with a list of individuals for promotion, the general not only refused the defenders of the Donetsk Airport but also cursed them out. Pushnyakov called the command post and yelled into the phone so loudly that everyone present could hear, "You don't give a damn!" and crossed out 30% of the personnel... "Go to hell with your lists. I'm fed up with your airport; it feels like no one else is fighting here. Go to hell with your lists."

In turn, the head of the Ministry of Defense Stepan Poltorak (read more about it Stepan Poltorak: The new Kuchma needs a new Kuzmuk) After the incident with his subordinate, he reported that he had spoken with him. However, since Pushnyakov is an experienced officer, the minister made it clear that the general would retain his position.

Another scandal involving the Ukrainian Armed Forces' commander is known: he told NATO representatives that ATO fighters were fully supported by the state, and that volunteers had nothing to do with the supply of provisions and clothing. Following this incident, Anatoly Pushnyakov was forced to publicly apologize to the volunteers.
