Akhmetov's Zaporizhstal paid off its electricity debt at the expense of the environment.

zaporozhstalUkraine's largest steel mill, Zaporizhstal, which is controlled by oligarch Akhmetov, has experienced a power outage, the plant's press service reported.

It is known that Zaporizhzhiaoblenergo disconnected the steel plant's power supply due to an unpaid debt of 140 million hryvnias. The plant's press service later reported that 70 million hryvnias were withdrawn to partially cover the electricity debt, at the expense of the plant's environmental modernization investment program. As a result, Zaporizhstal's power supply has been restored, and production is now operating normally. Management promised to prevent future shutdowns.

Zaporizhstal is Europe's largest steel mill. Rinat Akhmetov's SCM holding company owns a controlling stake in the plant.
