Zhevago and Akhmetov are rapidly exporting iron ore from Ukraine.

Zhevago AkhmetovIn 2014, Ukraine ranked fourth globally as an iron ore supplier. Notably, these raw materials are supplied by Ukrainian companies owned by oligarchs Kostyantyn Zhevago and Rinat Akhmetov. This was reported in a publication by UAPROM, citing the World Steel Association (WorldSteel).

It is known that, based on the results of last year, the top five iron ore suppliers were: Australia (exported 754,3 million tons, which is 23% more than shipped in 2013). Brazil is in second place with 344.4 million tons (it increased exports in 2014 by 4%). In third place is South Africa, which shipped 64,8 million tons of iron ore, increasing production by 3% compared to 2013. Ukraine increased iron ore exports by 7,8% in 2014, shipping 40,8 million tons of minerals abroad.

Over the past 10 years, India, a major exporter, has fallen out of the top five. Meanwhile, Ukraine ranked only seventh among the largest iron ore exporters in 2005. It was during the past 10 years that Konstantin Zhevago and Rinat Akhmetov established control over Ukrainian mining companies.
