Konstantin Zhevago (Read more: KONSTANTIN ZHEVAGO. THE RISES AND FALLS OF A DOLLAR BILLIONAIRE), which owns the assets of the pharmaceutical company Arterium through the Finance and Credit group, has completed a transaction with the Slovenian bank Nova KBM (NKBM) to acquire Marifarm, a pharmaceutical company. According to Interfax-Ukraine, the stated purpose of the deal is to jointly explore new opportunities for developing pharmaceutical markets, exchange experience in production and high-tech innovation, and subsequently apply the results in practice.
Remarkably, Marifarm became an independent division after being separated from a larger entity, Farmadent (Maribor, Slovenia). However, its fate was not auspicious: the enormous costs of servicing the loan taken out for the construction of the main administrative building (estimated at €32 million) thwarted all attempts to establish business. Even though the core operations were stabilized, this did not resolve the payment difficulties, which became a compelling argument for municipal authorities in their decision to sell the company.
It is noted that Arterium is not an independent company either: it was spun off as a joint project from the largest domestic companies, Kyivmedpreparat and Halychpharm (Lviv), the former of which is known as a manufacturer of antibiotics, and the latter is a leader in the production of herbal medications.
