People's Deputy of Ukraine, former Party of Regions member Oleksandr Onyshchenko may have lobbied for the appointment of Igor Shevchenko to the post of Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources (Ministry of Ecology).

This is stated in the investigation of the program "Groshi" on the 1+1 channel.

The program's journalists claim that Onishchenko is romantically involved with Olympic champion Anna Bessonova. The athlete has never directly stated her relationship with the MP. The gymnast always briefly acknowledges the presence of a loved one in her life, without naming names. However, the journalists learned from their own sources that this man is indeed Alexander Onishchenko.

A journalistic investigation revealed that Onishchenko had once purchased an expensive "gift" for Anna—a parliamentary seat for her brother, Oleksandr. Reportedly, Onishchenko spent some of his millions to secure this, but the 26th position on the Batkivshchyna party list proved unwinnable.

According to the program "Groshi," the gift for Bessonova didn't work out, so to avoid having to recoup the money invested, Batkivshchyna leader Yulia Tymoshenko offered Onishchenko the position of Minister of Ecology. The oligarch's candidate, allegedly a little-known lawyer, Igor Shevchenko, was chosen.

All they know is that he graduated from Harvard and owns his own law firm, Asters. However, Shevchenko hasn't been seen at the law firm for a year; his office is closed for renovations.

Onishchenko's press service denies any connection between the millionaire and Shevchenko, calling any accusations "mere gossip." However, the press service confirms that the minister and the MP are acquainted.

However, journalists discovered that Asters had long served as legal advisor to Eduard Stavytsky, the controversial former Minister of Coal Industry and Energy during the Yanukovych era. According to Groshi, it was with Stavytsky that the millionaire Onishchenko once had very close ties.

"They jointly implemented various dubious schemes and earned billions from gas and oil production," the report says.

"Thus, in Stavytsky's absence, Onishchenko installed his lawyer as the Minister of Ecology. Shevchenko doesn't understand ecology, but he does understand the law and its underpinnings. So, now the 'gas king' has his own Minister of Ecology, a partnership with whom could bring him billions," the journalists claim.
