When a golden loaf of bread was found in the fugitive Yanukovych's residence, several theories arose about the authorship of this vulgarity. The main theories pointed to former Minister of Agriculture Prysyazhnyuk and Azarov's son, who promoted the family bread brand from behind his father's corrupt shadow.
However, everything turned out to be simpler. The golden loaf was "baked" according to a recipe by Vladislav Atroshenko, head of the supervisory board of Khlib Kyiva OJSC.
He settled in this lucrative position after his scandalous dismissal as governor of the Chernihiv region, where he was accused of corruption and negligent homicide following a traffic accident. As a reminder, on September 17, 2004, Atroshenko, while driving a Mercedes, fatally struck a resident of the village of Krasnoe.
When Atroshenko returned to parliament, he began to make advances towards Yanukovych, who was then carving out electoral districts.
Knowing Yanukovych's primitive artistic taste and possessing a similar aesthetic, Atroshenko commissioned a model of a golden loaf of bread from the Chernihiv Auto Parts Plant. The two kilograms of gold for the offering cost him $100.
On the guarantor's birthday, Atroshenko made his way to the body and presented it with a loaf of gold. Yanukovych, having assessed the physical and financial weight of the gold, awarded Atroshenko his desired district in Chernihiv Oblast.
After the public unveiling of Mezhyhirya, workers at the Chernihiv auto parts plant's casting and stamping shop unexpectedly saw their product on television. One of them posted about it on Odnoklassniki, including photos of the loaf from the factory.
We spoke anonymously with this man, who shared details of the golden loaf's smelting. He said that when explaining the task, Atroshenko said the loaf would be given to Burkina Faso's Minister of Agriculture, who was supposedly planning a trip to Ukraine at the time. Atroshenko personally witnessed the smelting of the loaf, fearing the gold would be stolen. After the smelting was complete, Atroshenko took the loaf, paid three workers 100 hryvnias each, and demanded they forget everything they had seen.
Today, Atroshenko, with his smart demeanor, is running for mayor of Chernihiv on hundreds of billboards. And his candidacy undermines the chances of genuinely democratic candidates, such as Ihor Andreychenko from Demalyans. Furthermore, the story of the golden loaf of bread casts a tinge of vulgarity, sycophancy, and bad taste on Atroshenko's image.
