"Beleniuk has never worked anywhere": Gutzeit rejected the champion's call to debate

To Vadim Gutsayt

Vadim Gutsayt doesn't want to communicate with Beleniuk / Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine

Ukrainian Youth and Sports Minister Vadym Gutzeit will run for NOC president. According to the official, candidates for the post must have managerial experience, writes 24.

On Thursday, November 17th, elections will be held President of the National Olympic Committee. After Elena Belosiuk withdrew her candidacy, three candidates are vying for the position: Olympic champion and MP Zhan Beleniuk, Minister of Youth and Sports Vadym Gutzeit, and Igor Malinsky, Director of the Institute of Special Physical and Combat Training and Rehabilitation.

Beleniuk recently challenged Gutzeit to a debate. However, Vadim Markovich declined the offer. The Minister of Youth and Sports believes there's no point in debating with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion, as he lacks managerial experience.

«A constructive conversation with Beleniuk? Such a conversation is possible if someone works somewhere, learns something, knows what they want, and doesn't have someone writing them letters. I can discuss a variety of topics. I know how to do everything, how to organize everything. He's an Olympic champion, and that's great, really cool. Just like Olena Pidhrushna, an Olympic champion, they're our respected athletes. I respect them. But how can you treat an Olympic champion? We in our sports family must treat each other with respect, and that's the most important thing.

Regarding work: I don't know anything about this person; he's never worked anywhere. This person, as a member of parliament, has provided no real assistance to the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine. We don't know his opinion, we don't know what he'll do. I mean, I respect Beleniuk as an Olympic champion, but as a specialist, I don't know him at all. And I'm sure the whole of Ukraine doesn't know this because he's never worked anywhere."," Gutzeit said.

What does the NOC presidential election promise for Vadim Gutsait?

  • It was previously announced that Sergei Bubka would not run for the committee's presidency.
  • Serhiy Nazarovich was remembered for his strange behavior at the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. For a long time, the head of the NOC remained silent on the aggressor's invasion, and only on the eighth day did he issue a press release in which he called the war a "disaster."
  • Beleniuk's main competitor for this post is said to be Vadim Gutsayt, the current Minister of Youth and Sports. It is his candidacy that is supported by Serhiy Bubka.
  • Beleniuk himself has repeatedly criticized Bubka for his reticence. He demanded that the head of the NOC take a clear position and make statements without delay.
