Yarema's Excuses. Part Two

Deputy Prosecutor General Anatoly Danilenko has been suspended from his duties pending an internal investigation.

Ukraine's Prosecutor General, Vitaliy Yarema, announced this at a briefing, commenting on the ongoing scandal surrounding his deputy's 140-hectare estate, reports RBC-Ukraine.

"Anatoliy Danilenko contacted me with a statement because he doesn't want to attend work. He expressed a desire to be suspended from his duties pending an internal investigation. At the direction of the President of Ukraine, an internal investigation has been ordered, and SBU officers have been involved," Yarema stated.

Yarema also answered a question about the fate of his son, Valeriy, who was appointed head of the Department of State Registration of Real Estate Rights at the Ukrainian State Register on September 19. The Prosecutor General asserts that his son does not accept bribes and referred the question about how Valeriy Yarema obtained his new position to the Minister of Justice.

"I hope the Minister of Justice or his subordinates will answer these questions (about his son's appointment – ed.)," Yarema Sr. said, according to Ukrainska Pravda. According to Yarema, his son received the position before his appointment as Prosecutor General.

"I raised an intellectual, moral, and spiritual man of whom I'm proud. He doesn't take bribes and works honestly, earning his 6,5 hryvnias a month," Yarema stated. When asked whether his son lives on his salary, the Prosecutor General replied, "Well, we (his parents – ed.) help him."
